On Sunday morning, Pope Leo XIV celebrated the Eucharist at a parish in Ostia during a pastoral visit as Bishop of Rome. One detail drew particular attention: grown women wearing make-up and sneakers served at the altar. While not unprecedented, it is uncommon to have such women serve at a Papal Eucharist. It had not occurred during Leo XIV’s pontificate until then.

Blessed Joseph Allamano - February 16 Blessed Giuseppe Allamano (21 January 1851 – 16 February 1926) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest. He established the Consolata Missionaries (I.M.C.) congregation for males and another for females, known as the Consolata Missionary Sisters. Allamano also served as the rector of the Santuario della Consolata and transformed the shrine into a source of spiritual renewal for the faithful. He was beatified (the last stage before canonization) on 7 October 1990. Giuseppe Ottavio Allamano was born in Asti in 1851 as the fourth of five children to Joseph and Marianna Cafasso Allamano. February 16th - Saint of the Day: Saint Pamphilus and Companions (The Martyrs of Caesarea) The Martyrs of Caesarea were not “religious fanatics.” They were a living snapshot of the early Church, and they refused to bow. Saint Pamphilus was a priest who built a library to protect the Word of God, shared Scripture like bread for the hungry, and still ended up in chains. He and his companions were imprisoned for a long time, tested in the slow grind of fear, and they stayed faithful anyway. Then comes the wild part. Five young Christians were questioned about where they were from, and they basically said, “Jerusalem.” Not the city on a map, but the Jerusalem above in Galatians 4:26. They claimed Heaven as home, even when it cost them everything. And after the executions, their bodies were left exposed, yet they were reported to remain untouched for days.
