Pope Leo XIV has "decided to follow the '1988 jurisprudence'" with regard to the episcopal consecrations of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) on 1 July, reports Rorate-Caeli.Blogspot.com on 25 April, referring to anonymous Roman sources. This means: "He is said to have already had a decree prepared that is similar in tone and content to the one promulgated by Pope John Paul II through Cardinal Bernardin Gantin, Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, on 1 July 1988." The decree would declare the excommunication of the bishops involved, denouncing these episcopal consecrations as a "schismatic act". Excommunication of entire FSSPX ? Other Vaticanists have confirmed the core of the rumour. Since Leo XIV continually calls for peace in the world, the bishop argues that he should also foster peace within the Church. If he cannot make peace with the faithful and clergy of the FSSPX — Catholics who love and pray for the Pope — then his appeals for peace will lose credibility.
